Organized in late 1989, Solvent Kleene began operations in January 1990. Initially, the company focused on distributing small solvent recovery systems. At the same time, we began developing water-based degreasing solvents and a Solvent Kleene designed solvent recovery system.
In 1991, Solvent Kleene introduced aqueous and semi-aqueous cleaner/degreasers. After extensive market testing, we concluded that such alternatives are significantly weaker in performance than the industry standard 111 trichloroethane that these products aimed to replace. In addition, we realized that to supplement their low performance we would need to develop new and complex cleaning technology and equipment.
After a thorough investigation of the technology that we would need to develop and the price we would need to charge for these systems, we opted to discontinue our efforts on water-based products. We then shifted our development efforts toward a non-hazardous solvent-based degreaser/cleaner which would offer performance comparable to that of a chlorinated solvent. In April of 1993, the company introduced this product. Today, it is being marketed under the brand name D-Greeze 500.
Solvent Kleene has experienced a very positive market acceptance of D-Greeze 500. After extensive testing at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, D-Greeze 500 was found to outperform 111 trichloroethane and 55 other safe alternatives. In September 1994, Solvent Kleene introduced D-Greeze 500 Low Odor which was extensively tested by United Technologies - Pratt & Whitney. D-Greeze 500 was subsequently approved for use worldwide in all Pratt & Whitney plants for its vendors and engine customers (e.g. commercial airlines and service centers).
In response to customer requests for a means to quickly dry parts cleaned with D-Greeze 500, the company has developed the necessary technology. Currently, the company offers two basic techniques for drying parts (shuttle and tumble drying) and will custom build this equipment for customers. Both systems were first introduced in October 1994. A cleaning system is in the early stage of development.
In 1993, the company introduced the SK-6000 Solvent Recovery System. This system enables a user to reclaim 90-95% of a waste solvent which both reduces the amount of hazardous waste generated and the amount of replacement solvent a company need purchase. The SK-6000 was originally intended to be used for processing conventional solvents but can also be used to reclaim D-Greeze 500.
After the introduction of the SK-6000 and D-Greeze 500, the company developed a family of non-hazardous solvent-based and aqueous-based degreasing products which includes D-Greeze 1000, D-Greeze ES, D-Greeze 2603 and Kleeneze 404.
Recently, the company introduced a family of environmentally friendly paint and powder coating stripping products including a line of aircraft approved paint strippers.
